The Croque Quest is on a mission to test every Croque Monsieur in Paris. Today we visit Café Republique.
Located on Place de la République, Café République offers a view of the skateboarders in the square and the steady stream of people passing by, making it a spot to observe the rhythm of the city. The Croque Quest makes a surprise visit on a December 17th Tuesday in 2024 at 12.30 PM.
This is a decent Croque Monsieur. The bread is of “pain de mie” type and not commercial toast. The ham is of good quality but rather tasteless. The cheese is of pre grated type and has little to no flavor. The texture is crunchy on the outside and soft inside without a soggy underside. It is served with a simple salad of lettuce and tomato and a good vinaigrette.
