The Croque Quest is on a mission to test every Croque Monsieur in Paris. Today we visit Le Compas .
Brasserie Le Compas, situated on the lively Rue Montorgueil in the 2nd arrondissement, offers a quintessential Parisian experience with its classic art deco design and bustling terrace. Known for its traditional French cuisine, this brasserie is a favorite for locals and visitors alike, serving timeless dishes like steak frites and seafood platters in the heart of one of Paris’s most charming pedestrian streets. The Croque Quest makes a surprise visit on a Thursday December 19th in 2024 at 13.00 PM.
This Croque Monsieur is excellent. The bread is traditional “pain de mie” rather than generic toast, offering a soft, fresh base. The ham stands out for its high quality, generously layered throughout. The true highlight, however, is the cheese: a premium French Emmental that delivers a rich flavor and forms a thick, golden layer across the top. The texture strikes the perfect balance—crispy on the outside, tender inside, with no soggy bottom. Accompanied by a basic yet well-executed salad of lettuce, tomato, and a flavorful vinaigrette. A well over average croque!
